The name “Benchmade” (literally made on the bench) reflects the brand's positioning: production that combines the precision of modern industrial machinery with hand assembly and hand finishing.

Here is a detailed description of what defines the brand:
🦋 The brand logo: the Butterfly
The Benchmade logo is a butterfly. It is a direct tribute to the company's origins, which began by making butterfly knives (the famous Bali-Song). Today, this logo printed on the blade is a mark of quality, durability and prestige for knife enthusiasts.
⚙️ The flagship innovation: the AXIS Lock mechanism
Benchmade is famous for having popularised and perfected the AXIS Lock, a blade locking mechanism invented by the knifemakers Bill McHenry and Jason Williams.
-
Maximum safety: It is considered one of the strongest locking systems on the market.
-
Ambidextrous: It operates as easily with the left hand as with the right.
-
Fluidity: It lets you open and close the knife with a simple flick of the wrist while holding the lock bar pulled.
🛠️ Premium materials and "USA" manufacturing
All Benchmade knives are made in the United States in their ultra-modern factory in Oregon. The brand uses state-of-the-art materials:
-
For the blades: High-tech premium steels offering excellent edge retention and high corrosion resistance (such as CPM-S30V, CPM-S90V, M390, or the ultra-tough CPM-CruWear steel).
-
For the handles: Lightweight, robust materials such as G10, carbon fibre, titanium, Micarta or Grivory (a very light textured nylon).
Benchmade has created several knives that have become true global benchmarks in EDC (EveryDay Carry or daily carry), survival and the military sector:
-
Benchmade Bugout: One of the most popular folding knives in the world. It is ultra-light, very slim and designed to disappear in the pocket.
-
Benchmade Osborne (940): A timeless classic for more than 20 years, designed by Warren Osborne. It is famous for its "reverse tanto" blade profile and its bombproof sturdiness.
-
Benchmade Griptilian: A utility model, renowned for its exceptional grip and versatility (work, outdoor, everyday).
-
Benchmade Bushcrafter: An extremely robust fixed-blade knife built for survival and bushcraft.
🛡️ The LifeSharp service (lifetime warranty)
One of Benchmade's great strengths is its LifeSharp programme. The company guarantees its knives for life. Any buyer of an authentic knife can send it back to the factory.
Benchmade is positioned in the high-end / premium segment. Its knives represent a certain investment (generally between €150 and over €400). This price is justified by American manufacturing, the quality of the steels, the locking technologies and the lifetime warranty.
If you are thinking of buying a knife from this brand, tell me what use you intend to make of it (everyday carry, hiking/survival, hunting, collecting). I can then point you to the most suitable model for your needs.
